Research on CNM – Funding, Criteria and Supported Projects

Since its foundation in 2015, our association has been raising funds to advance research on centronuclear myopathies (CNM). In the early years, we supported established organisations such as the Myotubular Trust (€48,000) and the RYR-1 Foundation (€8,000).
Since 2019, we have been running our own competitive funding programme. To date (2025), we have invested €392,400 in research projects selected through our own calls.

Our funding guidelines were developed in a sociocratic process together with our members. They define how decisions are made and what standards apply:

Two core principles guide our approach:

1. Maximum transparency
We believe that researchers, members, donors and the public should have clear insight into our selection process.
This includes:
• the requirement for an accessible lay summary with each application,
• and the obligation for funded researchers to present their results at one of our family conferences.

2. Objective and fair evaluation
All proposals are reviewed by our independent Research Advisory Board, supported by external experts.
The ranking is based solely on objective criteria, aligned with European funding programmes. Our goal is simple: to identify the best research project worldwide for the CNM community.
